Sinha Ji’s Interpretation —
Shloka 3: Competence for initiation into yoga: Yoga initiation includes the following things:
- Aspiring for self realization through a Yogic discipline
- Perform all the duties in a very disciplined manner so that their is no distraction from the goals and so that one can lead a life in harmony. The feeling of being close to the lord has a unique importance. When Krishna told Arjuna how he could develop all this by keeping close ties with the lord and by a following a system that was established in the past, Arjuna with a curious mind asks the following to lord:
Shloka 4:
He asks as Vivaswan has been existing since long, whereas he exists in the present, then how can he know that he knew all this even at the time of beginning? A seeker is bound to have questions like this related to the timeline.
Shloka 5:
He says that we both have passed through many births but he knows about it and Arjuna does not.
Self- the eternal life element — External existence is an attribute of the self where as the physical form is bounds of the time process. AN important truth about cognition is released in this shloka. People who existed in their physical forms in the past still exist today cognition of universal self. Birth and death are only attributes of physical form. The lord is an example of external self he takes up forms (incarcerates).
Chapter 4 of the Gita takes the reader into another realm of our existence, which is not easily comprehended by any one unless he or she is internally evolved. The first three chapters take us through the essential inner disciplines for a purposeful life.
Shloka 6: The lord shows three important features of his omnipotence:
1. The lord is never unborn — the self or the soul is always existent
2. The lord is immutable self — He is ever deathless.
3. The lord is the regulator of all beings — this is called nature of maya.
The physical form of the self depends on actions from the past life.
Shloka 7:
He says that whenever dharma is on wane, and adharma is on ascendant then there is disharmony in cosmos. When the human values are threatened by adharma — this becomes a reason for the lord to incarcerate.
Shloka 8:
To root out the evil the lord says that he manifests himself as in when necessary in whichever form needed. Pious is for those person whom divine attitudes find expression. The word evil signifies person whose attitude defies the divine propensities. Yuga means a particular span of time and in this shloka it refers to the time when lord decides to incarnates himself. Every moment is a joint of the future with the past.
Shloka 9:
God- realization by comprehending divine manifestation and functioning:
The lord describes the protection of the pious and rooting out the evil. Lord’s presence is effluent and lights up others. There are different views on god’s incarnation. Some thinks that he comes down in the form of a human being. Just like a play with actors, the world and the physical form though perceptible are not real. They appear in some form for sometime but they keep on changing. All the things perceived by the mind are only imagined and are not real. What remains after total elimination of all and cannot be eliminated is the concept of truth.
